The Texas State Railroad is a historic railroad located between Rusk and Palestine, Texas and is 25 miles in length. Their roots can be traced back to 1881 where the railroad served two purposes, one was to import raw materials for a prison iron foundry and the other was to export the product once completed. With time the railroad expanded to except passenger and freight services.
Today the Texas State Railroad is owned and run by the American Heritage Railway which operates a variety of vintage steam and diesel locomotives. The railway park allows guests to ride vintage rail cars pulled by both the diesel and steam locomotives which are located between the parks Victorian style depots and the center of the forests of East Texas. Specials events at the park include a Day Out with Thomas the tank engine.
The Texas State Railroad is host to a Day Out with Thomas event which has wonderful turn out each year. Guests can enjoy of railway activities because the railway is a park which allows their visitors to ride different vintage rail cars that are pulley by both diesel and steam locomotives between the park's Victorian style depots including a ride through the forests of East Texas.
